Lesson Title:
Reviewing intervals of Time
Introduction:
This lesson will teach students how to tell time that has passed and that will pass.
Content Area and Grade or Age Level of Students:
Third Grade Math
Objectives:
New York State P-12 Common Core Learning Standards for Mathematics
3.MD.A Solve problems involving measurement and estimation of intervals of time, liquid volumes, and masses of objects.
3.MD.A.1 Tell and write time to the nearest minute and measure time intervals in minutes. Solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of time intervals in minutes, e.g., by representing the problem on a number line diagram.
Relative Advantage:
Instead of listening to the teacher explain and write problems on the board you get an engaging experience from a multimedia video that grabs the students attention and using computers allows for an interactive experience.
Timeline:
60 minute lesson
Materials:
Multimedia videos: Worksheet:
Grouping Strategies:
Each student will have access to a computer in the computer lab.
Learning Activities:
Students will watch the multimedia video on the smartboard. Once the students have finished watching the video the floor will be open to questions and discussion. Once discussion of the topic is done and questions have been answered students will go to a computer and they will login to Google docs and access and complete the worksheet that the teacher has sent them.
Assessment:
The assessment will be based on how well students answer the questions on the worksheet with a numbered grade.
Adaptations for Learners with Special Needs:
Different ways to teach ELL learners math.

Different ways to teach ELL learners math.
- Modify (teacher talk) and practice wait time to give students time to process questions.
- Allow ELLs the opportunity to work individually so they can progress at their own pace.
- Show and tell whenever possible through demonstration.
- Create vocabulary banks to server as a helpful reference.
- Elicit nonverbal responses to help check for understanding without requiring students to produce language
